Morning, sunshine!

Nadyn blinked sleepily at the darkness, annoyed that the sun had not yet spread its warming fingers over the earth, and she had to go on border patrol. Carefully, as not to disturb the other members of the den, she stood up, then leaned forwards and backwards, stretching out her cramped legs in preparation for her morning run. As she exited the den her overly shaggy winter coat served its purpose as it kept her warm, impervious to the flurries of snow that the winter wind blew at her. Nadyn's stomach growled a complaint as she smelled the delicious smell of fresh kill, but she would have to do without, as many other wolves were doing in the hard winter season. If she was lucky, she could find prey as she did her patrol, and have a meal on the run.

The snow and ice felt frigid against her still warm paws, and the wind was fierce enough to make Nadyn shiver. The camp was looking deserted; a few guards drowsily standing guard near the entrances out of the wind, an early morning hunter returning successfully with two meaty rabbits, a wide eyed pup bounding out of its den, only to race back in at the chilling temperatures. Nadyn blinked a snowflake out of her eye, and shook her coat until all of the snow had fallen off of her. The annoying part was that the only person she didn't see was the alpha, who she was supposed to be going on border patrol with. Nadyn couldn't wait to talk to the Alpha, Halcyon, about becoming the new second in command after the old Beta had tragically fallen off of the waterfall.

Slightly annoyed, Nadyn shifted her paws around so as not to get frostbite. "Where is he?" she muttered under her breath.

The mid-morning sun shone ever so slightly over the mountains in the far distance of the land. The trees where blowing in the wind, shaking all of the frost that had developed over the night. The wind was weak, but just ever so slightly srong enough to blow the remaining leaves off of the trees, making it seem like they where losing all of their hair. The dens where quiet, with sleeping wolves, dogs, hybrids, ect. I was to wake up early to go on a run with my more and likely new beta Nadyn. She was the most trustworthy animal that i have met so far. I slowly crawled out of my den, stretching my body as far as possible, trying to wake up my body. I'm usually not awake this early, but i want to know more about Nadyn. So far, she seems like a pretty wonderful girl. She is nice to everyone in the pack, and she is very resposible. If you tell her to do something, she will do it right away with no hisitation. The moon was still out, making everything still sound asleep. Soon, some wolves in the pack will wake up, and howl at the remaining moon in the sky, which usually wakes everyone up. I just say that the wolves are our alarm clocks. It's very useful to have animals in your pack that can do something like that. I know, that if i tried i would fall asleep trying to wake people up. But maybe some people are early birds.

The ice covered the earth, making every step that you take a challenge. You could slip and fall, but when that heppens everyone usually laughs. So that's why you would want to fall when no one is looking. The trees where awake now, moving their branches in front of their faces, so they wouldn't get any frost on them. The sun was now shining brightly behind the mountains. The mountains glistened a beautiful white-ish, gold-ish. I just stood at the door of my den, enjoying the earth. Enjoying that i am a leader of the most best pack that could be found, enjoying that i have a pretty descent life. "Well Halcyon, you better get up, and meet Nadyn before she gets to angry at you." I thought in my mind. I didn't want to get up, i was loving the view of the sun popping out of the mountains. But i had to meet Nadyn.

I walked over to where Nadyns den was. I saw that it was covered in ice. It looked like it was just a glass den, that was painted a pretty brown. The den was a little smaller than mine, it was about the same height as mine, but the length is smaller. I have one of the biggest dens that you could have... so far. I want everyone to be happy, so i give them pretty good dens. I saw Nadyn, standing at the doorway of her den. Her pale white fur was a little gold, with the sun shining on it. You could easily spot her in the night. "So Nadyn, where are we going to run to?" I asked. So i waited until she would reply.

"So Nadyn, where are we going to run to?" Nadyn shook her head a little, snowflakes falling down in a mini snowstorm."I'm not sure Halcyon, It's up to you. Wherever we go, let's try and hunt because I'm starving! Well, I'm not really starving, I'm just a bit hungry. You really do a good job of keeping us all fed." Nadyn was glad of her thick pelt for another reason than just warmth, the fact that her ribs were beginning to show was hidden by the thick fur. Just because she decided to survive on less didn't mean that the alpha wasn't doing his job correctly; Nadyn only ate enough to get her through the day, leaving the extra part of her ration for the pups, elders, and nursing mothers. Flashing a wolfish grin, Nadyn began walking towards the exit, sure that by the time she reached it, Halcyon will have decided where they were going. It was beautiful, watching the sun bounce off of every little peice of ice and snow, as if the entire landscape was made of gold, which was one of Nadyn's favorite perks of winter.
